With the guidance of our resident scientists:

  • You’ll discover the research process aimed at identifying new insect species in the Peruvian Amazon.

  • You’ll learn how to observe and recognize the unique traits of nocturnal moths.

  • You’ll accompany the researcher as they select the individuals to be included in the study.


From the Amazon Rainforest to DNA


Through the Discovering New Species activity, each specimen collected follows a rigorous scientific process that culminates in DNA analysis. If one of the individuals turns out to be a new species to science, you may even have the chance to contribute to naming it.
